The Indiana Philanthropy Alliance

The Indiana Grantmakers Alliance (now the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance) is a nonprofit membership association serving the state’s community, corporate, family, independent, operating, private and public foundations, as well as corporate giving programs.  In January of 2013 the President/CEO of The Indiana Grantmakers Alliance (IGA) met with Metamorphosis Change Agents to discuss IGA’s strategic planning process in preparation for completion of the 2014-2016 plan. Given the positive momentum and seemingly rapid changes in the philanthropic sector, IGA with the help of Metamorphosis, embarked on a year-long strategic planning process that included tools from an Appreciative Inquiry perspective. Appreciative Inquiry focuses more on positive potential rather than weaknesses or threats by using a SOAR (Strengths, Opportunities, Aspirations, and Results) analysis rather than the traditional SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) analysis . The IGA strategic planning process included opportunities for board, staff, members and other stakeholders to provide feedback, activated a mission/vision task force and gathered significant feedback about goals, strategies and metrics.  Metamorphosis facilitated each step of the process and worked closely will all of those involved.

At the conclusion of the strategic planning process, IGA had made many important and exciting decisions regarding its mission, vision and name as well as strategies for the next two years.   Most importantly, they recognized their aspirations, changed their mission and vision statements and decided to change their name to The Indiana Philanthropy Alliance to better reflect the work that they were already doing and planned to do in the future.  The results of this planning process were truly reflective of Metamorphosis Change Agents goal to guide positive change in organizations.  To learn more about the Indiana Philanthropy Alliance, click here.
